MRO Supplier Selection & Sourcing
When it comes to selecting a maintenance, repair and operations or maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) supplier, depending on what the MRO of your organisation lean towards, it is important to place your MRO buying in the hands of a responsible supplier outfit.
This is essential to ensuring that the MRO supplier is doing all it can to supply what you want, when you want it – and reducing your cost as low as possible making that happen. It is key to also approach MRO buying with an eye toward safety stock, usage, inventory management and lead times i.e., avoiding oversights which may arise
as a result of neglecting;
- your lead times when you need to resupply your MRO items
- usage or depletion rate for your MRO supplies
- when you are close to exhausting your MRO items
- the amount of current stock units of your MRO items and what categories are available.
In addition, a strategic sourcing approach should be implemented in the MRO supply management technique applied which should drive savings reducing MRO spend. The sourcing strategy employed should be able to effect savings (3% or 5% or 10%) on your MRO spend and also have an impact to your company’s bottom line.
The nature of MRO procurement processes are typically adhoc and far more uncertain since they are indirect items used in production. As such proper strategies put in place to achieve efficient procurement processes should enable your MRO buying by reducing costs and consolidating dependable MRO suppliers.
